There are two Arab regimes that failed to convince their people to maintain the same method of governance throughout decades with the pretexts they presented, despite the voluntary or obligatory change that affected their role in the face of Israel, after this role marked the way they presented themselves domestically and abroad.

After 42 disastrous years of Muammar Gaddafi's rule in Libya, there is a popular revolution that has stalled, and every passing day of a war of attrition equals a whole past year of the Colonel's criminal record.

The television appearance by Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah last Saturday affirmed something about which there is no longer any doubt. Hezbollah controls judicial, military, security, political and diplomatic decisions; the remaining symbols of the Lebanese state are merely political cover for this state, which Nasrallah outlined for all Lebanese waiting to hear who holds power over the country's future.

There is nothing new about Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s denial of the responsibility of his fellow Hezbollah members who were accused of having carried out the assassination of Rafik al-Hariri. There is also nothing new about him informing those concerned that no one will be able to reach the latter, even if in 300 years. On the other hand, it would be naïve to believe that Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare expected that as soon as the arrest warrants were out, the four accused would head on the first plane to The Hague. Justice is not the decision-maker at this point, but rather power.

What if the Justice and Charity group in Morocco was to turn into a political party? The reason for the question is that its leaders and supporters are involved in politics by taking stands and committing to the ethics of political work, like any opposition party. But at the same time, they are barricading themselves outside the political game all the while brandishing the banner of preaching and guidance and the chants of religious calls for reform.

It is very natural for a country having Egypt's size, history and influence to be the object of foreign conspiracies and schemes targeting its stability and aiming at affecting its decision or at shifting its goals in specific directions, in order to achieve the interests of individuals, sides or other countries. However, it is unnatural for this conspiracies "tale" to turn into a justification for the mistakes, the bad judgment or the failure of the policies and decisions during the transitory phase.

Christine Lagarde, former French Finance Minister, has become the new head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), succeeding its former head, Frenchman Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who was also the presidential candidate for the French Socialist Party. DSK was charged earlier with attempted rape by the authorities in New York, a charge that seems to be now on its way to collapsing, in my opinion because his lawyer has proven to be better than the District Attorney. Two days ago, he was released on bail, which means that the prosecution’s case is on shaky grounds.

Lebanon should not remain captive of Rafik Hariri’s blood. Indeed, if it stays hanging on the rope of this terrible crime, this would perhaps achieve the will of his assassins. The country’s fate is more important than the fate of any individual. I say this, and I consider Hariri to be an exceptional figure in the history of independent Lebanon. This man could have represented the backbone of a Lebanese settlement that would restore the republic’s spirit, just like Kamal Jumblatt, Rene Moawad, and others – while taking into account the difference among the men and the stages.

How did the paths of Jonathan Pollard and Anthony Weiner intersect? The former is a Jewish-American spy for Israel who is serving a life sentence, while the latter is a Jewish, Democratic member of the House of Representatives who resigned last month in the wake of a text message he sent, showing himself partially naked, to a 21-year-old.
